Affirmation
Savage Garden

I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse tv evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I don't care if you agree with me or not. Just don't go and post some idiotic "No you are wrong go to hell/you are an idiot/(insert some jackass comment here)" You are entitled to disagree. Just do yourself a favor and don't be unintelligent about it. Also, this is my journal...if I choose not to defend myself, it's because I feel as if I don't have to. Maybe I'm not in the mood for it, maybe I just don't want to argue or go back and forth about it. Maybe I just respect the fact that you don't agree with me and that you think differently and I honestly don't feel that I need to repeat myself several times over in an attempt to make you see things from my point of view. It's not because I'm a coward or dumb or anything else you may think of (I hope). I just don't see why I should persuade you to think differently than you do. I like you guys because you aren't me. I would greatly dislike spending time with no one but myself.

Also, the only reason I'm putting this little note before I begin is so that I'm not forced to repeat myself/argue for my virtue repeatedly/don't have to repeatedly tell you that my opinions are mine, not yours, and I am not saying you HAVE to agree with me. If you know you are not going to agree with me and you disagree with me so strongly that you think I'm wasting your time, then why spend MORE of your time telling me that? It'll just piss me off. I hate when people do that. If it's SO not worth your time, WHY BOTHER? < /rant filled with latent, pent up feelings from [livejournal.com profile] egl/facebook >

Ok...I'm done. I'll move on. Also, remind me to look up synonyms for "repeat". Thanks.

I believe that we enter into this world naked, or "sky clad" as some would call it, because that is what the higher being, whether it be a god, God, many gods, male, female--whatever, intended. That does not neccessarily one needs to be naked at all times. Nor does that make it alright to use your body to gain favors/to get an advantage. It just means we should not be ashamed of it.

I believe that this higher being does not want us to kill each other in his or her name.

I believe that doing so would go against his or her wishes and would disappoint him/her greatly.

I believe that the higher being does not have a direct hand in shaping what we do. It's more of a light touch. You can look around and see the influences of his or her will, but the likelihood that the higher being will come down and direct your entire life is completely out of the question unless some extraordinarily extenuating circumstances occur.

I believe that marriage is not necessary to raise a happy child, but it can help.

I believe you should be allowed to marry whomever you love, so long as they feel the same.

I believe that the mother should have the choice as to whether it is right to bring her child into the world--not an estranged politician who cares for nothing but votes.

I believe that we are all here to bring a certain thing to this world, and that we will leave under one of two conditions: 1) we fulfill our duty to the world and the higher being. 2) we fail to fulfill our duty and the higher being feels that our continued presence will only harm the rest of the cosmos.

I believe that you get what you give--it just may not be in the most timely or clear manner.

I believe we shouldn't bother trying to understand the will of the higher being, he/she/it/they are beyond our comprehension and we should just be glad in the fact that the higher being has shared his/her love with us and given us this world.

I believe that whenever you feel despair, you only have to close your eyes, take a deep breath, and look around to be reminded of the glory of the higher being and that he/she is watching over us.

I believe that in the worst of times, this is often very hard, but that it is hardest to do when we are in the best of times.

I believe we over complicate everything in this world; it is much more simple than we'd like to think.

I believe the greatest truths can be found in the interactions of nature.

I believe that we should see things from a different perspective every now and then--a change in physical perspective can be just as enlightening as a change in mental perspective.

I believe some of the greatest lessons to be learned can be learned from our animal brethren.

I believe children grow up too fast.

I believe too much emphasis is put on test scores as opposed to actual intellectual growth.

I believe the only way to teach a stubborn child is to sometimes use physical force. That doesn't mean it needs to be excessive.

I believe that physical force is not the only ability we have that can move mountains.

I believe that we should live in harmony.

I believe that sometimes the only way to harmony is to cause a stir.

I believe that a person being in a position of power does not negate the fact that they can still learn a few lessons or two, or that they can't accept challenges thrown their way.

I believe if a person in power does not fulfill the role he or she had promised, he or she should be replaced.

I believe that everyone, Man and Beast, has certain rights.

I believe that the strong should help the weak, but that doesn't mean they should be denied personal growth of their own.

I believe there are amazing things in this world that have yet to be discovered.

I believe the only heroes we have are the names that have and will survive history.

I believe that a indulgence isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I believe that self-denial is denying the higher being.

I believe that excess to the point of drawing attention is unnecessary and frowned upon by the higher being.

I believe that there are many things in and outside of this world that we will never understand and that to try to would be foolish.

I believe that there are many things that could be explained simply if only we were to take a step back and realize the tangled mess we have made of it.

I believe that wishing or telling someone that they are damned and unloved by the higher being brings you into the higher being's bad graces.

I believe that the higher being can be known by many different names, thus meaning that he/she can be God, Allah, Yahweh, the Goddess all in one. That doesn't necessarily mean that all the names we give to our gods are just names for one being. That does not necessarily mean that there is only one god.

I believe that we won't know whether there is one or many higher beings and what they are called until we die and are shown the truth. For now, all we have are our beliefs, and there's no point in fighting to try to prove one or another's correct.

I believe that if someone commits a crime against another, he or she should not live better than someone who hasn't. If, and only if, it is not possible to punish a person so that they live in a worse condition than one who has not committed a crime, should they be put to death.

I believe that an eye for an eye is understandable and sometimes warranted, but there are also other options in several circumstances.

I believe that wherever you end up is where you were meant to be, regardless of what you want.

I believe we are all predestined for something, but that we are all given the chance by the higher being to change destiny and that we will not be looked down upon by him/her if we do defy our path--so long as it is justified and right.

I believe that the word "love" is over used and misunderstood.

I believe love is underused and misunderstood.

I believe you can love many people at once.

I believe you can love a person yet at the same time dislike them.

I believe that divorce is sometimes necessary, but that it has become an excuse to "settle" rather than wait for the person you should actually be with.

I believe that marriage is a big step and, regardless of circumstances, if a person is not ready for it, they should not go through it because it will inevitably fail if they are not prepared.

I believe that marriage is a big commitment and is taken too lightly.

I believe that sex is a beautiful thing and that you should not be embarrassed by it. At the same time, you should not go about "IT" excessively because it involves forging a deep connection, physically and spiritually, with the persons involved in the act and that this is a bond not to be taken lightly.

I believe that falling in love should be the result of a healthy relationship, not the goal of it.

I believe that it is possible to find "The One" and "True Love" with the first person you ever date, but it is a very rare occurrence.

I believe that a person should enter any relationship looking to make it a learning experience with someone they care for.

I believe that you should leave a relationship once it becomes destructive and hurtful.

I believe it is difficult to do so.

I believe you should be kind and courteous to all strangers--you never know who they may actually be.

I believe there is great joy to be found in sleeping in late every once and a while.

I believe that you should rise when you feel comfortable. It's foolish to get up at any hour because it is a "decent" hour. There is no such thing as a decent hour. We each have our own schedules and routines and should not feel guilty about getting up however early or late we do.

I believe that a little chaos can be good for the soul.

I believe that you should go out of your way to learn about things you find strange and unusual so that you are not frightened by the different.

I believe it is alright to be unsettled or uncomfortable by any given circumstance, person, place, thing, or idea.

I believe allowing yourself to become completely hostile and closed to such things is foolish and does nothing but work against you.

I believe you are never too old to play. The older you are, the more you need to do it, to remind yourself not to take things too seriously.

I believe that laughter is can be necessary in the grimmest of situations.

I believe that the ones we care about who have passed on look after us.

I believe there are things that are at work in this world that we can neither see, hear, nor touch.

I believe that we are not alone in our world or our universe.

I believe it is sometimes necessary to laugh until you cry or cry until you laugh.

I believe that you can be most loved when you are completely alone.

I believe that you cannot choose or control your sexuality and that to do so works against nature.

I believe sometimes you just need to turn on the music, close your eyes, and dance.

I believe that every person who enters your life can teach you something.

I believe no one should ever stop learning. They should try to accumulate as much knowledge as they can. Not to flaunt how much better than another they are, but so that they may understand the universe and how to better interact with it.

I believe that afternoon naps are sometimes all you need to make everything better.

I believe we all have our own niche, sometimes we just don't find it in time.

I believe that an ageless child and the world in which her resides lives within us all and that all we need to do to see him/her is to have a little faith, trust, and a belief in something magical.

I believe that if there is magic in this world, then the higher being created it and it happens only because of his/her will that it works.

I believe that as time passes, we are losing the sense of aestheticism and beauty that we once sought out.

I believe we should try to live in harmony with nature.

I believe that we are justified in eating animals if, and only if, we allow them to eat us without argument. After all, it's only fair.

I believe that having friends just for the sake of having friends is pointless.

I believe intuition is not something to be ignored lightly.

I believe that romance is not dead, just very, very illusive in today's too fast society.

I believe. Period.

It's really amazing to just look at this list and realize that these are a good chunk of my beliefs laid out in what I hope is a semi-coherent way. Typing this up made me think and it made me realize how much my opinions have changed and been shaped by the different people and experiences in my life. I would recommend it to you guys because it just feels really cool to have something to look at and say, "Hey, this is what I believe in." I'm not saying it won't change, I mean come on, some small thing could happen tomorrow that ends up changing the majority of my beliefs--who knows? But it feels pretty darn cool to be able to look and see what I think listed out rather than simply having it all up in my muddled little head.
