Okay, normally Suzy is my favorite to play, and setting her down when we down-sized the cast was hard. I was super thrilled to be back in the Mirrorverse because that meant more Suzy but now. Um. She's getting really fucking annoying. Dave, you are absolutely right when you say she needs to love herself. She's so wrapped up in you that she's lost the spitfire attitude that I most associated with her. Granted, this was sort of inevitable, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. I'm looking forward to returning to the regular-verse so that I can redeem her character for a bit before I have to lay her back down.

Annnnnd. As much as I've regretted laying her to rest in our regular game, it's been really nice to get back to basics with Spock and Gaila, and I'm really happy that I've picked Uhura up and that the character is finally going to get a chance to be fleshed out.

Haha, there's really no point to this entry. I just feel bad because I'm always on Tumblr now. But I love LJ. I just haven't had much to say. I'm slowly making my way through PGSM and now I'm debating what I'm going to wear to Matsuri. I think I'll probably only wear loli on Saturday. I don't think I'll be there on Sunday. For the picnic in two weeks I think I'll make wee little pigs in a blanket again. Those are yummy. I think I'll probably wear Vintage Cherry to the picnic and The Print Formerly Known as Prince to the con. Idk. I can't decide.

...and Phoebe and Pearl both start with the letter P.

And it is from this idle observation that I have discovered my topic for my lit class essay. (Well, pending approval from Dr. Skelton.) I've done some preliminary research, just so that I could be sure it was actually writable, but I truly believe it is. And it will be a masterpiece. And, in lieu of me having anything going on in my life, I shall share my thoughts with you on this. Any criticism is welcomed, as it's been about a year since I've had to worry about doing an analysis on this level.

WORKING THESIS:
The House of Seven Gables' Hepzibah and Phoebe serve as both mirror and foil to the mother-daughter pair presented in The Scarlett Letter's Hester and Pearl.

POINTS/WORKING OUTLINE:

I. Hepzibah
     A. Attitude in adversity (pessimism and defeat)
     B. removed from society around her/isolated
     C. Still need a C
II. Phoebe
     A. represents light
     B. salvation of Pyncheon family
     C. characterized as simple
III. Hester
     A. Attitude in adversity (perseverance and change)
     B. mentally isolated from society, but physically is within it
     C. still need a C
IV. Pearl
     A. represents sin
     B. redemption for Hester and whats-his-name Minister
     C. precocious
V. Similarities
     A. sufferance of guilt/blame
     B. Older-younger
     C. Not acquainted when guilt established
VI. Differences
     A. Surrogate v. true mother-daughter
     B. Placement of guilt (generational/ancestral v. self)
     C. need a c

It's still kind of weak because I need to refresh myself more fully on The Scarlet Letter, and I've done a minimal amount of research on it. Most of it's off the top of my head. My only real concern though is getting it in within the page limits. I have no problem meeting minimum requirements, but I'm quite wordy and have a tendency to go over (I once turned in an 18-page essay when the requirement was 10-12 pages). I'm really looking forward to researching this more and finally writing it. I hate Hawthorne, but for some reason I really like the idea of doing more research on this. I don't think there is very much written connecting these four characters, so it'll be fun to be able to form my own connections and draw my own conclusions.

Database is gone. Um. I think I only had feedback from three people anyway but still. It's weird having it not be there. It reminds me of back before there was a dbs. (Lol nm just checked the cached google bit. I have +2. Sooooooooo much buying selling there.)

A friend and I were talking about how the fashion and community has changed, and it really seems like there's two groups of thought regarding the fashion and its growth. The older one takes inspiration from outside sources (other fashions, time periods, etc.) and transformed to fit the lolita aesthetic. It provides for a more subtle change over time and seems to provide for longer lasting elements. The newer one takes the inspiration from outside sources and transposes those elements literally into lolita instead of interpreting them in the style of lolita. This causes the subsequent changes to have a shorter life span than those that came from interpreted elements because of the lifespan of the fads they came from. I feel like the difference is seen best in decololi and fairy kei loli. With decololi, you take the elements of decora and manipulate them to fit the lolita "look," whereas with fairy kei loli seems to take fairy kei elements and just dump them on a lolita outfit. I think this is why we still see decololi and why fairy kei lolita has "passed" and is not as hip as it was when it first entered the scene.

(lol this is the most I've talked about lolita in a long time!)
