....I ordered Meta's lucky packs. That's right--packs. One of each. I have no control.

I mean, I have my reasons. It's not like I didn't think about it. I considered it, and I think I deserve it. I worked my ass off on that overnight shift. It seems ridiculous that all I would get out of it would be a free breakfast, y'know?

Why do I love Meta so much?

I suppose it could be because I feel a certain sense of nostalgia when thinking about my first brand items, my Meta bouquet set. It just felt so magical pulling them out of the box and, even though they were second-hand, they still felt so crisp and pristine to me. The lace seemed so soft, and I was just tickled by the fact that the print actually said "Metamorphose" on it. I was just so overwhelmed by the beauty of these creations; I knew I had to have more.

And now that I've been into lolita for a much longer time, I can further appreciate Meta as the black sheep of the main lolita brands. Meta's designs are so different from the other brands--many people describe it as hit-or-miss, but I have yet to find one design of theirs that I absolutely despised. Of course, there are going to be things you aren't going to like about every single brand, even your favorite is sure to screw up every once and a while, but I can never hate Meta. I adore the fact that Meta's designs are so original and funky. They can do the really elegant stuff that classic brands make, and they can do the insanely sweet stuff, and they can do the really over-the-top designs, but they also do their own thing. They take their own direction. What other brand can make leopard-print and camouflage stuff and make it fit into the concept of the company?

Also, I really respect the fact that Meta can make me want to buy something, regardless of my opinion of it. For example, I really HATE camoflage and animal prints. I think camo is best left to the military and imitation animal patterns should be left on the actual animals they belong to. However, Meta has created designs with both these elements that were so creative and innovative and just absolutely lovely that I still WANTED them regardless of the fact that I really disliked a huge part of the garment. It takes a lot of skill to sell someone something they are not necessarily that crazy about, y'know?

(Also, I really love that they managed to convince me to drag my pseudo-biker boots out of storage just so I could discover new ways of coordinating them with my burando)

Anyways Sarah, I hope this answered your question. ;)

Day Five )

#

Ahhhh....do you know how good it feels to over and past the 10k marker already? It's been less than half the time it took me last year and I'm actually AHEAD of schedule according to my handy dandy notebook (a.k.a. No PLOT? No Problem!) by about two days. I'm sooo thrilled! I feel really positive about this year.

REMINDER TO SELF: I need need need NEED to record my submission for "Voices for Lolita" TOMORROW!!!!! I CAN'T FORGET!!!!!!!!!!!!

TiLT will be coming after I get out of school. I have so much I'm thrilled about this week. Squee~

Oh, Cindy and I ordered our lucky packs from Meta! I'm soooo excited about this year. Last year I actually got a skirt I had been wanting quite badly, so I'm really hoping I'm not disappointed this year. 8D

Also, I think that I am musically regressing. I've begun listening to Disney channel stars' music. I downloaded the HSM3 soundtrack! I'm listening to Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers!! I'm rocking out to Hilary Duff!!! (does she still count?) Aly and AJ! Milo and Otis! Ashley Tisdale! Miley Cyrus only that one song that vaguely reminds me of Shakespeare!

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!?!?!?

I think I may have converted my friend Emma into a lolita. She asked me yesterday for the link to Meta's website.

>.<    Squee.

This is my first ever convert. Usually people just say, "oh you look cute" and walk away.

Also, if given the right guidance, Kelly Noel would be a great lolita hint hint. Lol...just now, I thought of her as Kelly Noel-y. XD

I HAVE TOO MUCH FREE TIME!!!

Movies later tonight with Rob. I had to replace Beth sometime. I think I've made a move up.

So, I know I've mentioned this before, but I really wish my package delivery man would wear his uniform. I almost missed a V.I.P. (very important package!) today because he dresses like a ghetto-man and I'm scared to open the door at first glance. (He's actually quite nice and soft-spoken).

This V.I.P. was my long-awaited Vintage Cherry jsk and ribbon headdress/bow thing from Meta. :) Qapla'!!! And.......(can you believe this??).........IT FITS. Like a glove, so absolutely perfectly. Double epic win. I do think that I may sell the ribbon headdress bow thing though, because when I ordered this stuff I still had my long hair and now I have short hair and it looks a bit......wonky. But, I'm going to play around and see if I can find a way to make it look alright.

Also, Meta sent me a bonus gift! I got their Room Print pillow, which is so great because it matches my room decor and I had been considering buying it when it showed up on [livejournal.com profile] egl_comm_sales a few weeks back. :]

I did decide to get Meta's special set. I'm just not going to buy anything else for the rest of the summer. Well, okay. I may buy some socks from Sock Dreams, but that's it. No more big lolita purchases.

IRL stuff )

And now....for my A-kon review. (lol....this is soooo late!)

First, con meme )

Ah.....A-kon. Alex drives like a fucking psycho. Maddie needed to get out of the bathroom. We took too much food. Sam got all his boxes stolen by the cleaning ladies. I HAD FUN. I wish I had gone to the cosplay contest, but whatever. Little regrets..... It was worth it. I have been dying to go and it was everything (and nothing!) that I expected.

I do wish I had been able to hang out with Kammie and co. But~ I guess we'll just have to be more organized next time.

I keep trying to upload my photos to Facebook, but for some reason it won't let me. I'm going to try again tomorrow and hope for the best!!!

I'm working on "Yesterday, Today, and Yesterday" and "From One Devil to Another" again. Hopefully I can get them up to a decent level. But~ my attention wanders and there is so much more I want to write instead. *has such a wandering attention span*

Also, I'm re-obsessed with Neopets. I can be found as poem_gal7

And now my account is overdrawn because my check hasn't dropped yet. Oops. Go figure that they would want to take the money out before it's even in there....

But yay...I'm happy. This is kind of a "perk up Megan" present for myself, since I've been down lately about my dad, and likely only to get even more down since the anniversary of his death is approaching.

Now I've gotta go to work before I'm late. Gotta go earn all that money back that I just spent >.

I think the link speaks for itself. I think I want the skirt in all three colors! .....But I can't justify that, so I'll settle for getting it in pink or blue. AND I WANT MATCHING SOCKS!!!!!!!!!! *love* Oh Meta, you never fail to deliver in your most unpredictable style~

Trestle at Pope Lick Creek was FANTASTIC. And hey--Darwin can actually act. And well. Really, really, really well. There is no doubt in my mind that he has found his niche in life. He was amazing. Plus he took his clothes off in the first act. :) Stripped right down to his boxers, and boy....if anybody filled the scrawny white boy stereotype... XD

Well, actually, I think he may just be built like my dad. I was too far away to be sure, but it looked like he was all muscle. My dad was like that--not an ounce of fat on him, and really scrawny looking, but EVERYTHING that was there was muscle. But yeah....he was pretty amazing (even with his clothes on)

Well, words are coming first because I feel woefully awful for not posting them over the weekend. Life's just been hectic with mom's car in the shop and having to coordinate our schedules. I haven't been home half as much as I would have liked to have been.

ennui \on-WEE\, noun:
A feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction arising from lack of interest; boredom.

Sitting in class had become so monotonous and unfulfilling that a permanent ennui had settled into her, to the point that she felt school had no purpose any longer.

virago \vuh-RAH-go; vuh-RAY-go\, noun:
1. A woman of extraordinary stature, strength, and courage.
2. A woman regarded as loud, scolding, ill-tempered, quarrelsome, or overbearing.

She found the orator to be a virago, worthy of admiration.

pestiferous \pes-TIF-uh-ruhs\, adjective:
1. Bearing or bringing disease.
2. Infected with or contaminated by a pestilential disease.
3. Morally evil or dangerous to society; pernicious.
4. Bothersome; troublesome; annoying.

Typhoid Mary was a pestiferous worker who made a lot of people sick. (Still waiting for that coffee to kick in....)

sine qua non \sin-ih-kwah-NON; -NOHN; sy-nih-kway-\, noun:
An essential condition or element; an indispensable thing.

As her life progressed, coffee became the sine qua non that allowed her to get to class on time everyday.

OH AND HEY PARTY CITY CUSTOMERS IF YOUR KID IS SHRIEKING AND YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE LITTLE MONSTER FROM MY REGISTER AREA I CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DAMN BRAT. I HAVE LITTLE NERVE FOR CRYING BABIES AND/OR CHILDREN AND I DISLIKE THEM EVEN WHEN THEY AREN'T MAKING NOISE. THNX FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND GET YOUR KIDS OUT OF MY STORE.

Grawr. I hate crying....things and yesterday was Super Baby Cry Day apparently. I had no idea. If I had, I would have called in sick. Haha...I hate kids.

Umm....Saturday I went to Osaka and the Museum of Fine Arts with Cindy. That was fun. I felt really lame though, but I always feel really lame when meeting new people. She had on the cutest Hello Kitty broach and I almost died of love when I saw it. She was so nice and gave me a cute Hello Kitty valentine and the most delicious strawberry jam filled strawberry cakes. I felt so bad that I hadn't taken her anything, but my brother raided my cupcakes! Oh well, it was his loss because I only shared Cindy's great little cakes with mom. XD Osaka was pretty good, but I felt kind of lame since I was absolutely starving, but my appetite mysteriously flew out the window a few moments before our food arrived. D: Then I was struggling to eat. Blech. My appetite's been weird lately. Afterwards we went to this supposedly cute cupcake shop. It wasn't as darling as either of us had been expecting, but the cupcakes were beautiful. They tasted good too, but not as good as they looked! XD

After that we went to the museum and checked out Miwa Yanagi's exhibit and Love Tokens. I didn't mind seeing Love Tokens again, because I absolutely love miniatures--I think I want to get one when I'm finally rich and famous. (Like that will ever happen!) I had been told by several people that I would love Miwa Yanagi's work and that I even looked like someone who had just stepped out of one of her photos. Now, I don't think I looked like I belonged in any of those pictures, but I did LOVE to nth degree her Fairy Tale series. Darwin said I would like it, and I did. Guess he knows me pretty well. I think what I liked most out of her Elevator Girls series though was the architecture in all of it. It really stole the lime light away from the elevator girls themselves. What I loved most of all was the Little Red Riding Hood. Talk about surreal. Blech...but that's not the word I want to use to describe it, I just can't think right now. Maybe it will come to me later?

Then we spent about twenty hours looking at the museum's library. Oh. My. God. Uh-Maze-Ing. I also got an idea on what to do my art history super-big paper on. :D That really eased my mind. Only trouble is I've got to get off my butt and get the art review that's due THIS WEEK done before I can justifiably begin work on that stupid research thing. BUT at least I know what I'm going to be doing.

And it just clicked that it is MONDAY. The art review is due TODAY. Damn. And I was doing so well in that fsking class. Better get started on that now then... D: Oh well...at least I for sure have time to do it. Writing papers is my THING. Good thing I noticed now rather than when he called to have the reviews in.

Do you plan on lying in this survey in order to make you look more loli?
No....

How long have you been into lolita?
Three or four years

How did you find out about lolita?
I can't remember....I imagine it was probably anime/manga though because

What's your favourite style?
Classic

What do you like most about lolita?
It makes me feel like a girl.

What do you dislike most about lolita?
Boobs! For some reason, my waist fits into stuff well, but my bust is always too small, so I get the saggy-chest-my-boobs-are-too-small look.

What's the most difficult thing about being lolita?
Affording it.....

What's the best reaction you've gotten in loli?
Being told that I was one of the coolest people this one girl knew. Which, if you know me, is really, really sad.

What's the worst reaction you've gotten in loli?
The Bo Peep/Not Halloween comments....and that's tame.

What's your favourite brand(s)?
Alice and the Pirates and Meta.

What's your favourite accessory?
My AP bear ears that [livejournal.com profile] grimy13 got me at PMX. Even though I can't really wear them anywhere, they remind me of her--she's the greatest!

Whats your favourite color combo?
Black/red

What do you think about black and white combos?
It's the combo you where when you mean business!

Who or what has the biggest influence on your style?
I wear what I like. If one day I wake up and what I like has completely changed, I'll go out naked.

What do you think about lolis with tattoos?
Good for them. Not for me, but good for them. Some of them have really amazing tatoos, I'd imagine.<

How often do you dress lolita?
At least once a week.

What magazines do you read?
Time, Geek, Shojo Beat

What music do you listen to?
Mostly dead guys.

What's at the top of your wishlist?
Vivienne Westwood orb locket

What do people around you think about lolita?
Most like it. There are a few who dislike it, but they won't say anything about it.

Do you own brand?
Yeah....Meta and AP

Can you sew?
Yeah.

Do you have more brand or commissioned/self-sewed/off-brand clothes?
Brand...I save for months and months to buy lolita stuff, then I look at how much I have and realize--hey! I can afford brand!

Do you think brand is worth its price?
It depends....mostly yes. But some seamstresses should charge more because their stuff is amazing!

What was the first brand you bought from?
Meta~ For that reason, they will always be my number one!

Do you use a shopping service? If so, which one?
Not personally, no. But I've had a friend use Crescent Shop to buy me some stuff.

Finish the sentence:

Angelic pretty is…
Cute

Baby the stars shine bright is…
WTF?

Moitie is…
Classy Aristo

Metamorphose is…
Love!

Emily Temple Cute is…

No...maybe one day....

Do you cosplay lolita?
No

Do you like anime?
Yes

What do you think about those who cosplay lolita?
(ditto) I think that they don't understand it's a fashion and are good for a good laugh but nothing to really be overly mean about. You have to start somewhere.

When you see someone doing loli wrong you…
Depends on how obnoxious they are about it....

Have you watched Shimotsuma Monogatari?
Yes

How many times? (don't lie now)
Once

Are you like Momoko?
No

Do you want to be like Momoko?
Ummm....no.

No.

Mana's work or Novala's work?
Novala....I like his style better :)

Honestly, what do you think about Mana?
Meh.....I like his clothing line but that's about it. Oh and his music rocks. But I can't stand the sight of him.

Do you think Mana invented loli?
So I'm told....

What do you think about Novala?
I love him!

How long does it take you to get ready?
Hour....maybe an hour and a half....

Do you wear a wig?
No

Can you pull off a bonnet?
Kinda....

Do you wear bloomers?
Yes

Before....then I'll slide my dress/skirt over my head.

What makeup do you usually wear?
Usually.....or usually with loli? Usually none.

Yeah....but I can't stand wearing it.

If so, do you do your own or buy it premade?

Would you rather sacrifice all your lolita clothes or never be able to wear normal clothes again?
Heck....screw normalcy! Give me bloomers or give me death!

Would you rather be in a world where you are the only person who wears and knows about lolita or The only person who knows, but it wouldn't really be a fashion now would it?
Not sure.....

Would you rather be the designer for major brand with a strict rule that you can't wear lolita at all, or would you rather be able to wear the clothes but all of them will purposely be the opposite of what you like?
Hard to pick....

If you had to wear one brand for the rest of your life which one would it be?
Alice and the Pirates

What would you do if your significant other told you they didn't like lolita?
They're free to like or dislike whatever they please, but I don't want to hear them dis it whenever I put it on.

What would you do if your significant other told you not to wear it anymore?
Tell them that I went with the clothes.

Ideally, what would your significant other's style be like?
Whatever he's most comfortable in!

Have you ever thought about stopping lolita? Why?
Well I've thought about why I would stop wearing it.....but not about stopping.

Would you rather be stuck in an island with Mana or Novala?
Novala.

Who's your favourite loli model?
I don't have a favorite...

What are your favorite 3 places on the net? (that are related to loli)
Livejournal, Meta's site, Baby's site

Five!

What is the most expensive lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
IW storybook jsk

Do you think there's an age limit to lolita? If so what is it?
As old as you feel comfortable

Keeping in mind what's released by each brand each season, what's your favourite season?
.....not sure

What do you think about boys who wear loli? (and I mean loli and not aristocrat, ouji, etc)
They better shave....hairy legs don't look good with poofy skirts.

Do you have a favourite artist? (as in painter, animator etc.)
I really like Degas

Name every un-loli aspect of yours.
Well....I hate wearing skirts/dresses. That's a big one. I'm not a lifestyle lolita--I don't think how you dress should influence your behavior in an extreme way, so I don't really think there's much to me that's un-loli.

Name all your lolita aspects.
Ummm....I wear it?

What does lolita mean to you? Is it just a fashion? Is it a lifestyle? A passing phase? Something else completely? Why do you care about the fashion? Please explain yourself as well as possible. Don't be afraid of getting mushy. hell, I encourage you to get mushy.
It's just a fashion to me. A kick-ass fashion that means a lot to me--but just a fashion. I care about it because it's a means of self-expression. It's as much a part of myself as someone else's favorite pair of jeans. They mean a lot, but you can't always put your finger on the reason why, and you're really upset when the dog eats them.

I GOT MY LUCKY PACK TODAY~!!!!

So the mailman came and probably thought I was absolutely bonkers, but I GOT MY LUCKY PACK! So I ran over to Sarah's (not literally!) and we opened ours together.

I got:

-lavender Thumbelina skirt, been wanting this one for MONTHS!!!
-black blouse, tall size, given to Sarah because tall size = too big for Megan's scrawny and pre-pubescent boy-like frame
-mocha long bloomers, another thing I've been wanting!
-white short bloomers, not as excited about these as the mocha ones...mainly because I've been wanting the mocha ones for a LOOOONG time

Sarah got:

-black blouse, tall size, plus the one I gave her makes two
-black bloomers
-the Infamous Lucky Pack OP in black, already had it from the summer LP.... :(

Pictures will follow....all in all I am VERY HAPPY and got VERY LUCKY with my lucky pack.

1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.
emmyette/Miette Humble, TX

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
two....three years?

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I thought it was pretty :3

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
roughly a year and half. Simply because it never occurred to me that I could actually wear such pretty things.

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
classic and punk. I like sweet style, but I'm scared to wear it because I'm so short!

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
three.

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
Feeling pretty and knowing that I'm a "special snowflake" in a world filled with dental floss wearing Hollister adverts.

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
The PRICE. After spending an inordinate amount of money to buy and ship something, you have to be insanely careful wearing it because most things are dry-clean only.

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
Victorian Maiden, Mary Magdalene...does h.NAOTO count? In the Starlight too!

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
Red and black tea party skirt and a red and black headdress from In the Starlight

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
Pride in your clothes. It doesn't matter how great your coordination is, or how much brand you own if your ashamed and embarrassed by what your wearing.

12. Do you wear drawers?
No...I don't have any. If I did, I'd wear them all the time!

13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
L'Arc-en-Ciel, Phantasmagoria, TM Revolution....I'm not really fond of the girls for some reason.

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
School.

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
Usually at least once a week.

16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were just beginning Lolita.
I tried coordinating dark purple, brown, black, and red.

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
I sometimes curl my hair....or at least pull it back from my face!

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
I imagine I will one day when I'm older. I'll probably swap it out for a more mature, vintage aristocrat look.

19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)
Anne of Green Gables. She was imaginative, independent, high-spirited--and she got Gilbert Blythe!

20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!
Well...an old teddy bear I've had since I was born. She'll always be my best friend. I still sleep with her! (and probably will until I snag me a husband to sleep with instead ;D) Sadly, no BJD....yet

21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
very little...I'm not fond of makeup.

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
No.

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
Yeah....why should I care if people think I'm off my rocker?

24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
Monthly? Well, I save up a little each month. The amount varies depending on what I'm saving for and how soon I want it.

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
Meta antique bouquet set. $120-ish second-hand.

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
$350-$400....blech.

27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of
Lolita?
I work two regular jobs and pet sit on the side.

28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.
In the Starlight. She was great....custom length plus fast and courteous service.

29. Even please clandestinely tell us about a private manufacturer that is the best.
I don't have much experience...I only own items from one brand.

30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?
Just about anything Angelic Pretty. I love their clothes, but they are so sweet, and it's hard for me to wear sweet style without looking like I'm three because I'm so short.

31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?
I don't mind as long as they aren't obnoxious about it. I am a bit annoyed when the cosplay lolitas think that lolita = cat ears and cheap wigs with short skirts. I once saw a girl wearing pants who claimed she was wearing lolita. That just really gets me.

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
Old enough to understand what a financial commitment it is.

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
When someone thinks they are better than another because they are skinnier/own more brand than another.

34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
Petticoat, skirt knee length, cover the boobs and navel.

35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?
I coordinate better.

36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
yes

37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?
Yeah.

38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)
No...no boyfriend. I decided I'm not going to date anyone until I transfer to a university.

39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
Everyone seems to love it--except for one of my friends who is like a sister to me. She refuses to see me if I'm in loli. It really hurts.

40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
I really am impressed by the guro-lolitas because not only do they have to coordinate well, they also have to artistically damage themselves (and their clothes!)

41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?
No....I just got my sewing machine back yesterday though (a friend had borrowed it and not returned it) so that will be changing within a week or so!

Purple/lavender plaid.

43. Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?
The bell skirt.

44. Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?
Yeah...unless they actually come out and say they don't want to. But I'm not going to have kids...just animals.

45. What's your image of the ideal Lolita?
A beautiful girl without a "holier than thou" attitude and a lot of frills.
