"I've never been kissed," Scorpius announced.
"Bullshit," Albus countered, but took a sip of his firewhiskey anyway. "What about Caz McKen--"
"That was different."
"How?"
"I kissed her, she didn't kiss me."
"You had your tongue down her throat! How could you get that far without her kissing you back?"
Scorpius took a long drink before slamming his glass down on the table with a hollow thunk. "That was a favor," he said, refilling his glass. "She wanted to make Tibby Kirk jealous."
"Caz and Tibby? But how does that--"
"Work? Well Albus, when a witch loves another witch--"
"Shut it."
"Fine." Scorpius refilled Al's glass. "Your turn."
"I've never liked girls."
Scorpius scowled as he took another drink. "That's a low blow."
"Is not."
"Is too."
"How?"
"I already told you I'm--"
"Bi? Polysexual? Generally a man-whore of extraordinarily low moral?"
"An equal opportunity lover," Scorpius countered.
"You're sixteen. You can't speak with that kind of authority." Al took another shot of firewhiskey before continuing. "Besides, you've never been kissed." He grinned triumphantly at his best friend.
"We're not playing this anymore." Scorpius reached across the table and snatched Al's glass away.
"Why not?"
"You're drunk."
"Am not."
"You only ever say you're not drunk when you are drunk."
"That doesn't make any sense!"
"Fine," Scorpius spat. "The last time you said you were gay, I spent the night holding you as your worshiped the--"
"I'm going to bed," Al said with a scowl. "And you're one to talk. The only time you ever yell is when you're drunk."
"Oh shut up." Scorpius turned to glare at the table.
Al let out a breath. "Scor--"
"Just go to be--"
His words were cut off by slightly chapped lips belonging to his friend descending upon his in a messy a kiss.
"Sorry," Al said after he pulled away. "Guess I am drunk." He stepped quickly out of the room, leaving Scorpius staring in his wake. Slowly, his hand came up to touch his lips.
"I--oh bollocks. Al!"
He stomped to the room they were sharing and forced the door open loudly. "You can't just--" His words fell as he realized Al was doing exactly what he had claimed--sleeping. "You can't just do that," Scorpius repeated more softly. He walked over to Al's bed and sat down.
"You should go kiss someone your family will approve of. I'm no good." He turned to study his friend's sleeping form. "And you can't just go around snogging people and making them act like your younger sister." He sighed, and then stood. He started toward his bed across the room before turning back to face Al, smiling. He leaned over and kissed him before crossing the room.
"Good night," he said to the darkened room as he climbed into bed.
"Good night," Al called back.
Scorpius froze. "I...what--you were asleep!"
Al sat up and shrugged. "I'm drunk, not drugged." He shucked his covers off and stretched before standing. "Besides, how can you expect anyone to sleep with all of the noise you're making?" He padded over to Scorpius' bed and nudged him lightly. "Budge over."
Scorpius gaped at Al, but did as he was told and slid as close to the wall as he could. "What are you doing?"
Al settled, facing away from Scorpius, and made himself comfortable before answering. "Sleeping with you."
"You--you can't do that."
"For such an 'equal opportunity lover,' you really can be such a prude Scorp. Besides, it's not as if we haven't done this before."
Scorpius shifted uncomfortably, as if he were trying to escape from his friend, but found he was unfortunately stopped by the wall on the other side of the bed. He finally settled, lying rigidly on his back and staring up at the ceiling.
Al turned to face him. "Relax. This doesn't have to be weird. This is just like last year. And the year before that. And--"
"The year before that," Scorpius finished sourly. "What's your point?"
Al's smile was patronizing. "My point is that every year we've been best friends, you've brought me along when your family goes on holiday. And every year your parents spend a few days away, leaving us alone. And every year we have always slept together--"
"I had to sleep with you because you were afraid of my fucking house!"
"--and you bravely kept the dementors away. And so why should this be any different?"
Scorpius glared up at the wooden beams lining the ceiling.
"Because it's not," Al insisted when he didn't answer. "Now good night." He turned away again and settled himself once more.
Scorpius finally relaxed and turned toward his friend. "Al?"
His only response was the sound of Al breathing.
"Al," he repeated. "Al."
When Al continued to ignore him, Scorpius jabbed him in the ribs. "Al!"
"Ow! What? I was actually sleeping that time."
"Are you sure?"
"Am I sure what?"
"Are you sure things aren't going to be different?"
"What?"
"Because I kissed you. And you...you know."
"And I kissed you," Al clarified. "Merlin, you really are like my sister."
"But how can you be sure?"
Al's voice cracked as he answered. "Because if you don't want anything to change then it won't. Now can I go back to sleep?"
Scorpius rolled over onto his back. "Nothing's changing."
Al pulled the pillow over his head. "Yes, Scorpius. Nothing's changing," he said, his words muffled by the mass of feathers covering his head.
"Okay. Good." Scorpius fell silent for a moment. "I've got a date with Michelle Carter."
"Merlin, just go to sleep and--" Al sat up. "What?"
"Well, since nothing's changing then I really see no reason why I should cancel it. First Hogsmeade trip when we get back to school. And I'm seeing Michael the week after that."
Al glared at him. "You're incorrigible."
Scorpius smiled at him and pulled Al against his chest. "You did say nothing was changing."
Al fought against him weakly. "Leggo me."
"Love you too, Al." Scorpius smiled as he felt Al stiffen against him.
"WHAT?"
Nothing was not changing. But he could be okay with that.
