schmoop_bingo. Prompt: "friendship" (Needs some editing, but I'll do that before posting to s_b. I'm going for a Malfoy-family blackout!)
Albus was taking advantage of the crisp autumn weather by studying for his upcoming History of Magic test by the lake when a hard kick to his head interrupted his thoughts.
"Hey! That hurt!" He turned to glare at the offender, his best friend, and was greeted with Scorpius' grin.
"What are you studying?" The Malfoy boy lowered himself beside Al and leaned over, resting his chin on Al's shoulder.
"We've an exam on Monday so-"
Scorpius cut off his words witha snort. "You dork. Come on, let's go to Hogsmeade."
"I told you, I'm-"
"Studying, yes. I know. Let's not and say we did." When Al ignores him, Scorpius turns away and stares off into the distance thoughtfully for a few moments before turning back to his friend armed with a triumphant grin.
"Whatever it is, the answer is no," Al intoned without bothering to look up.
"Actually the answer is that you can't study without your book."
Al looked up at Scorpius skeptically. "Aren't you supposed to take my book from me when you say that?" Scorpius opened his mouth to argue but Al cut him off. "You really suck at this. It's a good thing you're in Gryffindor, you know. You'd be laughed out of Slytherin for being such a dink."
Scorpius elbowed him and reached for the offending book. "I can help you with that later, you know."
"Not all of us are genius-level delinquents. Some of us actually have to work for our grades." Al batted his friend's hand away.
"And that's why you have me. Lucky bastard. Do you know what I'd be able to do with another me?"
"Merlin knows and hopefully I never will."
Scorpius laughed and leaned over, resting his head on Al's shoulder to study his notes. They lapse into an easy silence for the next few minutes, the quiet broken only by the whisper of parchment and Scorpius occasionally nudging Al's ankle with his foot and Al responding by elbowing him. Eventually Al breaks the silence.
"Fine. We'll go to Hogsmeade and get some butter beer, and then we are coming right back here and you are helping me study. Mum's going to kill me if I fail another exam."
Scorpius beams at him. "Really?"
Al rolls his eyes and shoves his books at Scorpius before standing. "Better hurry up before I change my mind."
Scorpius clambers up. "You are my-"
"Best friend, I know. Just don't forget you are going to help me study later."
"Don't I always?"
Al aimed a lazy punch at Scorpius. "Shut it."
"You're just using me aren't you? Using me for my beautiful mind."
"I need new friends." Al shook his head.
"You wouldn't know what to do without me."
"Lies."
"Bollocks." Scorpius threw an arm over his shoulders and pulled him closer. "You love me."
"You don't have to love your friends."
"Yes, but you love me."
"I should have just kept studying." Al finally yields to his pull and leans into his friend as they continue down the path leading away from the school.
Scorpius laughs. "Probably."
