Title: Perceptions Q-liding (Perceptions Colliding)
Fandom: Star Trek AOS, with a some TNG and TOS (although familiarity with them is not required for understanding the story)
Characters/pairing: Uhura2, Q, blink-and-you'll-miss-it K/S
Warnings: Parallel universes, Q
Summary: After being imprisoned on the latest planet the USS Enterprise visits, Nyota Uhura is liberated from her jail cell by an enigmatic man. Freedom isn't quite what she anticipated however, when she finds herself on a strangely similar planet with a curiously familiar woman.

Notes: The biggest thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] meteorfire who was able to step up to the plate and beta my fic at the absolute last minute. Without her, this fic would not have been posted on time. [livejournal.com profile] heeroluva also gets mad props for being so insistent about helping me find one when I was ready to give up, as well as for cheering me on and providing me with wonderful conversation. I also need to thank [livejournal.com profile] grimy13 for making sure that this story would be readable and understandable for anyone who wasn't familiar with TOS, TNG, and Q.

Much love goes to both [livejournal.com profile] _samalander and [livejournal.com profile] theoreticalpixy for helping me to cull the story down in its earliest form so that it would be write-able in the amount of time I had, as well as for their continued love and support. Additionally, to the wonderful sandraisagilf who unwittingly helped me by spending the last few days talking about how badass Uhura is.

Uhura woke with a start... )

ETA3: I spoke too soon. "[Edit 3] New poll at http://lj-feedback.livejournal.com/16181.html regarding IP logging!" Why can't they just leave it alone?

So LJ's done it again. Some of you might have noticed that when you post comments in communities or people post comments to your own journal that the location is showing.

According to this [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases post "Users who have enabled Comment IP logging will now also see the Country and City information of the commenter. This information is only visible to the journal owner, community owner/maintainers, or author of the entry if it is posted to a community with this feature enabled (only those who can currently see IP information). This feature is providing the publicly available geo-location associated with the IP address in the same way the "location" feature on our Update page currently functions."

I don't know about most people, but I find this more than a little creepy. I personally don't want to see where other people are, or have other people see where I am. It makes me hesitant to makes comments now because I don't know who has this turned on or not.

This is not the same thing as the "location" feature when a person makes a post. That is 100% voluntary. This is not. This is not cool. There is no way to opt out or protect yourself from it. You can turn it off in your journal, but that doesn't do anything for other journals/comms that have it turned on.

There is a difference between taking an IP address and manually entering it into a site that will spit out a location for you, and having it automatically done without asking.

The way it was before wasn't broken, and I can't imagine that people actually asked for it, so why mess with it? How about you change it back LJ?

So spread the word, create support tickets, and tell LiveJournal just how much you don't like this change.

ETA: This seems to only be applied to S1 themes at the moment, so a small way to prevent your own journal/comm from showing the location is to switch to a different theme.

ETA2: "[Edit] Message received! We're in the process of removing this change right now."
