Oh. My. Gawd. I love el chupacabra. Call it the Mexican in me, but I cannot get enough of this little guy. I think he's so cool. Plus, he's a great scape goat. I blame everything on the chupacabra. ;) I mean, don't get me wrong. Bigfoot's okay. The Yeti's fairly interesting. Nessie is very cute. But el chupacabra....aw man. I don't think I can possibly explain how cool he is.
Take, for instance, his origin. No one knows where he came from. It's very possible he's a mutated dog. He could be a new species. He might even be an alien. There's no possible way of knowing. Plus, scientists have actually examined carcasses that were possible chupacabras. No one can yet claim that about Bigfoot. They have foot "models," but no actual possible bodies. (And yes, I am aware that all of the bodies were not actual chupa-thingies. Still, it's very cool.)
I also think it's so cool that accounts of el chupacabra are so greatly similar and that they have originated from an area that isn't so widespread. When I hear all about Bigfoot, his (their?) territory seems to stretch on and on and on! That seems so unlikely that the same sort of animal has lived in all of this land with no one ever catching anything but a foot print. And with Nessie and Champ--there have been so many expeditions exploring the bottoms of these lakes...surely a creature would have been found. Nessie and Champ don't exist. They are fables, and I can't feel any sort of passion for them. But el chupacabra lives in a set region and has a set diet. This makes him more realistic and believable for me. I cannot have any faith in something that I am certain doesn't exist.
I also just absolutely love saying "el chupacabra." Has a nice ring to it, yanno?
Ah geez!!! Now I'm on an el chupacabra kick! I've got the words floating around inside my brain and my whole body feels charged and ready to go. He's my muse, my very reason for existing is simply to live long enough to find out whether or not he's just an elaborate hoax or something more substantial. (Haha...oh the religious connotations!)
