Hmmm...let's see. A round up of the last few days:
First off, I hate Wicked. Sorry to those of you who like it, but I don't. Neither the book nor the musical are really my cup of tea. I mean, I like the music of the musical but the storyline just doesn't drive me crazy. I think if I had never read the book (which just sort of drags and drags and then draaaaaaaaags) I would be able to enjoy the musical more. Anyways~ for some reason, "I'm Not That Girl" has been stuck in my head NONSTOP. Ugh, I love that song. I think that song alone is changing my opinion of the musical, lol.
Scheduled to work two days last week and got sent home early on one of them because a tree fell on a power line and knocked the power out to one of the buildings at the school. Of course go figure it was the building I work in. Damn luck.
Day after that Mom and I went to the bank to try to work out stuff with the mortgage. TOTALLY POINTLESS. I fucking hate banks so much. Shit customer service and a total waste of three hours. After we got back into the truck to leave the radio person was saying something about giving away ~FREE TICKETS~ to the first person to call in. I wasn't even sure what they were giving tickets to, but I was feeling ~lucky~ so I called in and won two tickets to see RENT! My first thought was to take Mom, because our shitty money situation right now keeps both of us from getting out much, but she had to work so I tried a few other people first. They were both busy so I finally buckled and asked Mom. She went in early that day to let her cover person know she'd need to leave early, and they asked her to go in much earlier than she normally does the next day. So instead of losing hours, she gained them AND got to see a show! Win-win!
Drove up to the dealership to pick her up on Thursday (and got the eyeball from one of the sales guys with a nice ass) and then headed for the Hobby Center. Our tickets were for the opening night of Masquerade Theatre's Rent. (If you click through that link there and look on the left side, you'll realize they offer a children's theatre program called the Tribble School, lol.) It was amazing. I'd only ever seen the movie so I was a bit unsure of how different it would be. I was not disappointed. Our seats were the fucking shit, first off. Right orchestra and no tall people in front of us. Perfect, except that my mother had been sitting at a desk all day and I can't sit for long periods of time comfortably anymore. We were SO SORE when we stood up for intermission and still had half the show to go! It took me so long to get back up my mom was making fun of me.
The show was on the smaller stage at the Hobby Center, and I was astounded at how well they adapted the set to such a small performance area. My high school and college both have larger stages! Performance-wise I loved everyone. The actress playing Mimi was a bit heavy set for a crack whore, but it was SO NICE to see that they had cast for talent (boy could she sing!) instead of JUST looks, because you do hear a lot about looks being super important (not just in show business, either!). Didn't much care for Maureen, but I just really hate the character. The guy playing Roger was trying to be too edgy with his singing and just sounded...very not good in comparison to the others. I think he may have been a bit hoarse that night too though.
Then last night (Friday) I had Beth and Rob over for dinner. Made chicken with green and red bell peppers and rice. They both said they liked it and afterward we ate Toy Story cookies and angel food cake (store bought, my angel food cake is not safe for human consumption!) and then sat and talked for several hours while Rob went through the stuff in my room. I had fun.
This morning Bernie woke me up an hour before I had planned getting up so I watched Super Hero Squad and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Sinnoh League Champions. I kept cracking up because they abbreviated Diamond and Pearl as "DP" so I kept imagining different sorts of porny pokemon battles. My mind is a scary place y'all.
